Every July 28th World Hepatitis Day is globally recognized to bring awareness to viral hepatitis and encourage people to get tested.

Right now more than 300 million people are living with viral hepatitis, unaware they have the disease. It is one of the biggest health threats on the planet and if left untreated it can lead to advanced liver scarring, liver cancer or liver failure. Each year the disease claims the lives of almost a million and a half people.

Dr. Garth George at Advanced Gastroenterology and Surgery Associates explains what hepatitis is and how it’s treated.
