These are some of the top stories making Hometown Health Headlines in Lake County:

  • Over 400 people are expected to turn out for the annual Lake-Sumter “March for Babies” event on Saturday, May 5th. Proceeds raised from March for Babies will go to serve families struggling with pre-term births and their complications.
  • Lifestream Behavioral Center is adding a crisis stabilization unit at the South Lake Hospital campus, next year.  The new center will have at least 5 beds and be used for patients who are involuntarily hospitalized under the state’s Baker Act.

A recent movie screening at The AMC Lake Square 12 in Leesburg aimed to open up communication and information about mental health and suicide. The hour and a half long film, Ripple Effect, chronicles the story of Kevin Hines, who at age 19 attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge.
