Let’s face it, schools are busy, noisy places! But a new program called school-based mindfulness is gaining popularity as a method to help children cope with everyday stress.

Mindfulness is described as an awareness of the present moment that allows someone to accept his or her feelings, thoughts, and sensations by becoming more self-aware. Coupled with controlled breathing exercises children learn to improve emotional self-regulation skills.

In the latest analysis of children’s health, one study finds that good cholesterol levels in children have actually improved over the last 20 years. Amidst an obesity epidemic, that’s the good news. The bad news: only about half of kids followed in the study had "ideal" cholesterol levels.

Hometown Health TV cameras showed up recently for Tri-County Foot and Ankle night at the Leesburg Lightning game.  Crowds cheered as Dr. Dan Wassell threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Pat Thomas Stadium, in Leesburg.

In a show of continued support for our community, Tri-County Foot and Ankle also hosted a food drive at the event, to benefit The Leesburg Food Bank.
